The race is heating up in Wisconsin as the election to recall Governor Scott Walker takes place next Tuesday. I’ve been privy to plenty of political rhetoric, mostly partisan and usually inflated or inflammatory regarding both candidates. Obviously people feel passionately about the situation…which is great as far as I’m concerned…with a great big “however” attached to it. Passion is good when it is attached to real truth, then it can be directed toward finding real solutions to the many problems we are facing. Misinformation cannot direct the passion of the good people from Wisconsin toward workable solutions to the crisis we face. It creates a kind of blindness that elevates either candidate to positions that they don’t deserve and simply creates such divisiveness and polarity that nothing can be accomplished. Level heads must prevail. Here are some good websites that will balance the facts better than some that I’ve read. What I do know is that we will all suffer in the end, if we don’t elect a governor who will alleviate polarity, who will generate the spirit of compromise in the assembly and the senate, who will make difficult, but necessary choices even if they’re not particularly popular, and respect all citizens of this great state and not just those who agree with one particular agenda. Most importantly, it is about time we set vitriol aside and take the responsibility that democracy demands and research the issues for ourselves.
